MetLife Stadium parking depends on the event: NFL game days require a parking permit for every vehicle, while non-NFL events may offer prepaid parking or payment upon arrival. The stadium is about a 7-minute drive from Royal Motel, so check the specific parking rules and lot opening time before you set out.

  • Location: One MetLife Stadium Drive, East Rutherford, NJ 07073.
  • Parking: Approximately 27,500 spaces across the east and west sides of the Sports Complex.
  • NFL games: Permits are required; parking is first-come, first-served within the permit tier.
  • Rail option: Event-dependent trains connect Secaucus Junction and Meadowlands Rail Station.
How MetLife Stadium parking works

How MetLife Stadium parking works

MetLife Stadium parking is spread across lots on the east and west sides of the Sports Complex, with event-specific rules for permits and payment. For non-NFL events, parking is first-come, first-served; prepaid permits are available for most events, and payment upon arrival may also be possible. Availability and capacity can vary.

For NFL games, you need a prepaid permit to enter the Sports Complex. Permits are first-come, first-served within the applicable parking tier.

A permit number does not reserve a specific lot: “GOLD” permits allow access to Lots B, D, J, K, L, M, P, Deck A, and lots near American Dream, while “PLATINUM” permits allow access to Lots E, F, or G.

An NFL permit covers one vehicle space and its tailgate setup. You cannot use adjacent spaces for grills, chairs, tents, or other tailgating items, even if you hold more than one pass. Overnight parking and driving between parking lots are not permitted.

Check your event’s parking rules

Check your event’s parking rules

Your event’s parking page sets out the permits, payment options, and opening time that apply. For most non-NFL events, prepaid permits are available through ParkWhiz; for NFL games, permits may be purchased through the Ticketmaster NFL Ticket Exchange. After selecting a game there, choose “Show Parking Tickets.”

If you are attending an NFL game without a prepaid permit, the stadium lists an off-site lot at 20 Murray Hill Parkway, East Rutherford, NJ 07073. Parking costs $65, payable by cash or credit card, and a shuttle runs to and from Lot G.

Parking lots typically open five hours before an event and close two hours after it ends, though hours can vary. Arriving before the lots open is not allowed; you may be directed to leave the roads serving the Sports Complex.

Check the official site before you go: MetLife Stadium directs guests to the event page or its “Know Before You Go” document for the opening time and event-specific details.

Planning arrival and departure

Planning arrival and departure

Plan to arrive at the lot opening time shown for your event, rather than assuming the typical schedule applies. Vehicles and bags entering the Sports Complex may be subject to visual searches. New Jersey State Police may also search vehicles, and a vehicle will not be allowed to enter if its driver refuses a search.

Choose your drop-off or pickup point before arriving. Charter buses park in Lot L. Taxis and limousines use the designated area between Lots D and E, which has no access charge. Rideshare vehicles drop off on the roadway between Lots D and E, while pickups are in Lot E. After a large event, rideshare waits can exceed two hours.

Alternatives to driving

Alternatives to driving

For some events, you can park at Secaucus Junction and continue by train, but rail service depends on the event. The stadium advises confirming that trains are running before choosing this option.

The Laz at Edison Park Fast lot at Secaucus Junction is at 675 New County Road, Secaucus. It has 1,100 spaces, operates 24 hours a day, and recommends reservations. For large events with rail service, NJ TRANSIT runs special trains between Secaucus Junction and Meadowlands Rail Station, a short walk from the stadium.

From New York Penn Station, there is no direct train to MetLife Stadium. Take an NJ TRANSIT train that stops at Secaucus Junction, then transfer to the Meadowlands Rail Line when event service is operating. Check NJ TRANSIT’s event schedule before you rely on the connection.

Parking-day checklist

Parking-day checklist

A few checks before departure can help you avoid arriving at the wrong lot or before it opens.

  • Confirm whether your event requires a permit and which purchase option applies.
  • For an NFL game, check your permit tier and the lots it allows you to enter.
  • Verify your event’s lot opening time and any rail service before leaving.
  • Choose the correct drop-off or rideshare pickup location if you are not parking.
  • Leave room in your plan for event traffic, parking searches, and possible rideshare waits.
